Statement in Reaction to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin’s Announcement of Rollbacks of Dozens of Environmental Protections
Washington, D.C. — In reaction to an announcement by the Trump Administration’s EPA today that it plans to eliminate dozens of environmental rules and terminate climate and environmental justice programs, the Environmental Integrity Project issued the following statement.
“EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin is driving a dagger straight into the heart of public health,” said Abel Russ, Director of the Environmental Integrity Project’s Center for Applied Environmental Science. “His gleeful lack of regard for the health and wellbeing of U.S. communities is a disgrace to EPA’s mission. EPA is charged with ensuring we all have access to clean air and water, not growing corporate profits for the oil and gas industry.”
In a press release today, Zeldin said: “Today is the greatest day of deregulation our nation has seen. We are driving a dagger straight into the heart of the climate change religion to drive down cost of living for American families, unleash American energy, bring auto jobs back to the U.S. and more.”
EPA issued a series of press releases that said the Trump Administration plans to reconsider or roll back 31 environmental rules and programs, including by undermining EPA’s authority to combat climate change, challenging pollution control regulations for power plants, weakening wetlands protections, ending incentives for electric vehicles, and terminating environmental justice programs meant to protect lower income neighborhoods and communities of color from pollution.
