Water Quality Advocates Challenge Maryland Court Opinion Limiting Public Access to Pollution Records

June 20, 2013

The Environmental Integrity Project (EIP) has filed a petition in the Maryland Court of Appeals on behalf of the Waterkeeper Alliance and several Maryland Waterkeeper groups, challenging a May Court of Special Appeals ruling that undermines the state’s Public Information Act by permanently preventing public access to agricultural pollution control information. If the Court of Appeals – Maryland’s highest court – grants the petition, it will have the opportunity to take a closer look at the laws intended to guarantee access to public information and rule on the side of open, transparent government and clean water.
